Pears Building Commission

Roland has been shortlisted for the Pears Building Commission, a major public arts commission as part of the UCL culture programme. The Pears Building is a new, cutting-edge research centre in North London. The appointed artist will develop art works for this new building.

10 Gram Challenge

snow+concrete: The Grand Finale in Montana
Biermann's series of photographs of melting snow will come to a grand finale in Montana this April. Shot over almost a decade in and around an underground car park in the Swiss Alps, Biermann will create new works on a bigger scale in collaboration with the Rocky Mountain College, working in disused warehouses in Billings. - A talk with the artist will be held at the Rocky Mountain College, Billings on 5 April 2017.

Rheingold - a new collaborative project with ThyssenKrupp
After two successful projects with German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp in 2006/7 and 201/11, Biermann is certainly one of the more experienced artists when it comes to printing photographs on tinplate. For this new project, ThyssenKrupp will manufacture special grade tinplate panels for Rheingold, the latest addition to Biermann's Ophelia series, showing used plastic carrier bags floating in used engine oil.
